Chromebooks are good alternatives to Windows laptops for students. They are cheap and powerful in the price range they come in. Chromebooks can be used to perform similar tasks to that of a Windows laptop. Because of lower costs, many schools give Chromebooks to their children. However, in a Chromebook provided by a school/college or any institute, there will be some restrictions. For instance, there will be certain Websites that will be blocked on your Chromebook and you won’t be able to access them. 

Google Settings

  • Firstly, you can Open the Google Chrome window.
  • Then, Click on the three dots button on the right top. And then you can choose More.
  • From next, You can Select the Settings option.
  • Then, Choose the Privacy & Settings Option in the list.
  • Then, We can turn off/on settings that are restricting you from accessing the websites.

How to Unblock Websites on School Chromebook

In this method, we will be using the college board application to unblock the website on Chromebook, the steps are easy to follow.

  • At the bottom right, select the time
  • Click Sign out
  • Click on Apps, It’s at the left down of the screen
  • Open Collage Board App
  • Click forget username
  • Scroll down and click Youtube icon
  • Once Youtube website is open, Click on SIGN IN
  • Click on terms at the end of the screen
  • Now Click on 9 dots icon
  • Click on Search

It will open Google in a new window now you can browse any website you want. If you have followed the steps carefully now you can unblock websites on a school Chromebook.

How to Unblock Websites on School Chromebook

Reset your Hosts file to unblock websites

If the first method can’t help, you can take a look at your Hosts file. The Hosts file contains the mappings of IP addresses to hostnames. If this file is modified, you may have problems.

  • Right-click on the hosts and open it with Notepad. If you see the website which you want to access with the numerals 127.0.0.1, your hosts file may have been modified, so you can’t access the site.
  • Select the entire line that contains the URL and delete it. Clear the cache, Save the changes and close the Notepad.
  • Restart Google Chrome to see whether it takes effect.
