Dadar railway station

The Mumbai railway station was in news in 2017 because it launched a train that was completely made in India. Medha was launched at 3.30 on March 18 2017. It ran on the tracks of the Western Railways. The train travelled from Dadar to Borivali.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

It is one of the most iconic railway stations in the country with many films shot in it. The Mumbai railway station looks like a museum more than a station. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) was formerly known as the Victoria Terminus (VT). It is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites because of the unique architecture. The station was designed by Frederick William Stevens who was influenced from Victorian Gothic architecture and traditional Mughal style.

Matunga

The train station in Mumbai is in the Limca Book of Records because it is the first all-women railway station in India. Matunga station on Central Railway (CR) has a staff of 41 women and no men. The women have successfully run the railway station without any hitches. This is a unique initiative to empower women. The women staffers are posted across all departments ranging from operations to commercial, Protection Force to ticket checking.

Howrah Junction Station

It is one of the oldest and largest railway stations in India. It is located on the western bank of the Hooghly River in Kolkata. Howrah railway station is also the busiest railway station in Indian when it comes to passenger volume per day. It has the highest train-handling capacity. There are 23 platforms for the many trains that arrive daily. The Howrah Junction has the largest number of railway platforms in the country.

Mysore Railway Station

This small, south Indian railway station in Karnataka is one of the cleanest railway stations that you can find in India. It is also the first visually challenged friendly station in India. It has various facilities like navigation map to help the blind passengers.

Rashipura khori

It is a small rural station in Rajasthan. The station was declared closed in the year 2005 due to poor income. But the people of the village wanted the station back. The railways agreed to open the station if there was a sale of tickets worth 3 lakhs. The villagers’ crowd funded the money for the reopening of the station. It was finally reopened in 2009. Since then, the villagers have run the station. They sell tickets and collect 15% of the sales as salary.
