Apple unveiled on March 8, 2022 the iPhone SE 2022, a budget smartphone to enter the iPhone ecosystem. Apple still offers an iPhone 8 design that some will find a little outdated. The screen, still LCD IPS, is surrounded by two thick bands. The device is the latest to offer a Home button with an integrated Touch ID fingerprint reader. On the performance side, Apple offers the same chip as on the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

What is the design of the iPhone SE 2022?

The design of the iPhone SE 2022 does not change one iota compared to that of the iPhone SE 2020. The design of this device is a kind of “fossil” of what Apple was doing before the release of the iPhone Xs – the first smartphones from the firm to adopt a “borderless” AMOLED screen with Face ID notch.

The screen size ratio is only 66% on this model against more than 80% on the latest borderless smartphones from the firm. The frame of the device is made of anodized aluminum, as for the back, it is like the front surface made of glass, or rather, a ceramic material that is relatively resistant to scratches and falls.

The model does not have a MagSafe system, but there is still wireless charging, which requires a transparent back to the waves. The front is made from a single piece of glass, TouchID button included. The latter seems to “click” when touched. But this effect is fully simulated thanks to the high-precision Taptic Engine vibrator.

In order to give a little sensation of novelty with this design for the least expected, Apple is launching this year a new green color of the most beautiful effect.

What's new for the iPhone SE 2022?

Like its ancestor who was based on the configuration of the iPhone 11 with an Apple A13 Bionic chip, the new iPhone SE 2022 takes up many elements of the iPhone 13 technical sheet, starting with its A15 Bionic chip and 5G compatibility. The iPhone SE 2022 is thus up to 1.8 times faster than the iPhone 8 and therefore the iPhone SE 2020. On the front, above the Touch ID, there is a Retina HD screen (750 x 1334 pixels, 326 dpi) of 4.7 inch True Tone without notch but surrounded by wide borders. This panel supports Dolby Division and HDR10 content like the iPhone SE 2020.

On the back, no change either, the 12 megapixel camera with optical stabilization and opening at f / 1.8 will however be supported by the Apple A15 and will thus support the photographic styles of the iPhone 13. This iPhone SE 2022 is still IP67 certified and dual SIM compatible (with eSIM).
