Unique Remote Alcohol Treatment Service Launches To Help Isolated UK Communities

Ground-breaking Service Offers Full Remote Alcohol Treatment Including Intervention, Detox & Rehab

London & Glasgow– 5 November 2023

A revolutionary new service that can help treat alcoholism and alcohol dependence in remote communities has been launched.

The unique service is set to change the way individuals struggling with alcohol addiction receive support, regardless of their location, by offering full alcohol treatment including detox and therapy remotely.

Detox Today, an innovative service based in London and Glasgow, offers full detox, rehab and counselling remotely, ensuring that people in even the most isolated areas of the UK can access the care they need.

By utilising the internet and telehealth, the firm has made it possible for people to receive comprehensive treatment from the comfort of their own homes, eliminating barriers such as geographical distance, access to services and individual commitments.

Through their remote service, they provide personalised and evidence-based advice and guidance on how to stop drinking and stay stopped, brief interventions, emotional support and access to a wide range of treatments, including a medical home alcohol detox, online rehab, counselling and support.

James McInally, Managing Director of Detox Today, said, "We are thrilled to bring our unique alcohol advice and treatment service to remote communities. Our goal is to break down the barriers that prevent people from accessing the care they deserve. Through the use of technology, we can now reach those who were previously underserved, offering them hope and a path to recovery."

The organisation includes a compassionate and dedicated team of professionals experienced in addressing the unique challenges faced by remote communities, including addiction advisors, doctors, a psychiatrist as well psychotherapists and sober coaches.

Recent studies have shown that remote communities face a disproportionately high rate of alcohol addiction, with limited access to specialised treatment services. A study conducted last year by the Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) found that rural communities in Scotland have higher rates of alcohol-related harm than urban areas. The study also found that there are significant barriers to accessing alcohol treatment services in rural areas.

Many services closed during the pandemic and moved to advice-only online services with no medical services or long-term recovery options available. Alcohol addiction services were decimated with people finding themselves with little support and few options in urban areas never mind rural places.

McInally said:“It's well known that access to treatment has been, and continues to be, an issue for remote communities, both before and after the pandemic. By providing online and postal services, we eliminate this barrier to services and save lives. Many traditional treatments that were only offered in-patient can now be done remotely. For example, we can diagnose and prescribe for medical issues and send people alcohol detox medications for next day delivery. Clients can also receive full counselling, emotional support and psychological therapies remotely, helping them to stop drinking and stay stopped.

“We've found that it works not only for people who have no services local to them, but also for those who have other commitments such as children, pets or who can't take time off work to travel to, say, Glasgow or London for treatment. It means people can receive a full alcohol recovery treatment right where they live.”

With the launch of this unique alcohol advice and treatment service, Detox Today aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of people in remote Scottish communities. By providing full detox, rehab, and counselling remotely, they hope that no one is left behind in the battle against alcohol addiction.
