Several parks are in a condition of decay. Coca-Cola company decided to do something in order to help in restoration and reestablishing those parks for an active living.
Coca-cola collaborated with the National Park Foundation, America’s State Parls and the National Recreation and Park Association on the America is your Park campaign.
The objective is to rely on public vote for the best park to win the title of “America’s Favorite Park”.
The top winner park received $ 100,000, the second and third place received respectively $ 50,000 and $ 25,000 to help restore, rebuild, and enhance activity areas in parks where people can play and be active.
The coca-cola company expanded the voting via her website and parks lovers used social media to share videos and photos to encourage online voting.
Among hundred parks the Veteran Memorial Park won a $100,000 grant that will be used to rebuild the playground destroyed by a tornado.
In addition to the top prize, the second and third place winners; the ‘Mason Nech State Park in Lorton, Va, and the ‘ Greis Veternas Memorial Park in Lynbrook, N.Y, both received $50,000 and $25,000 recreation grants respectively.
Coca-cola has supported efforts to maintain, rebuild, and restore parks across the nation for more than 40 years. The company donated more than $17 million to date in recreation grants to help people staying active in outdoors.
About the winning parks
The Veteran Memorial Park
Veteran Memorial Park was designed to honor the veterans and create spaces for families. In 2013, the park was damaged by a tornado, and the grant will be used to purchase a new playground to permit families to enjoy the park again.
The Mason Neck State Park
It is located in Loron, Va not too far from Washington D, C. the park is made up of thousands of acres of land and hosts the only visitor center for the whole Mason Neck region of Virginia. The grant will be used to rebuild, and restore activity areas.
The Greis Veterans Memorial Park
It is located in Lynbrook, the park is made up of ball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, a swimming pool, indoor recreation center and more. The grant will be used to purchase new equipment for the playground and recreational programs.
