Some people love speed, while some prefer leisure. Even adventure seekers’ tastes vary. There are those who seek the stomach-sinking sensation of zero-gravity flips and falls on roller coasters, while others live for the thrill of sliding down a chute of water and the big splash that comes after.

If you belong to the latter group, the amusement park rides on Yas Waterworld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi will suit you perfectly.

About Yas Waterworld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

Yas Waterworld in Yas Island Abu Dhabi is a water park – the largest in Abu Dhabi – covering an area of 149,734 square meters.

The park’s architecture is inspired by Emirati traditions and old ways of life. Notice the sandstone-colored structures that mirror those found in the Abu Dhabi desert and old fishing villages. Even the park entrance looks like a classic Emirati fortress.

At the heart of the park is a rugged peak reminiscent of Abu Dhabi’s craggy rock mountains. It serves as the central platform for the waterpark’s myriad water slides and is crowned by a huge pearl – a tribute to Abu Dhabi’s pearl-diving history.

Yas Waterworld’s Must-Try Slides and Experiences

Yas Waterworld has many attractions and experiences. Exploring and trying every one should fill an entire day.

If you have limited time, prioritize. Even if you must skip some of the rides, make sure to try these adrenaline-rush water slides.

1. Bubbles Barrel

Bubbles Barrel is a barrel wave surfing experience. No need to wait for a gigantic wave in the Pacific Ocean just to practice riding a wave. Bubbles Barrel’s powerful rip curl wave machine generates and maintains the world’s largest sheet wave. Use it to hone your barreling skills.

Note: Bubbles Barrel is for advanced riders. If you wish to ride its barrel waves, you must first go through a skill test at Rush Rider.

2. Rush Rider

Rush Rider is a bodyboarding adventure. It delivers intense thrills, but it’s something even beginners can try. Start by lying on your stomach to get your bearings, learn how to balance on the water, and practice reading the wave. The ride instructors will be on hand to give you tips if you need them so you can quickly progress to riding upright. Once you’ve passed a certain skill level, you can challenge its more extreme sibling, Bubbles Barrel.

3. Liwa Loop

Liwa Loop is a looping body-speed slide. The adventure begins in a single-person capsule. After a nerve-wracking countdown, the floor will literally open and swallow you whole.

Just kidding! But the floor truly is a trap door. When it opens, it will plunge you down an enclosed, looping tube slide and into the waiting pool of water below.

4. Jebel Drop

Jebel Drop is a vertical-drop body speed slide. If you ever wanted to find out what a free fall from 10 stories feels like, this is the water slide to try.

Yes, of course, it’s not a straight fall; that would be asking for trouble. However, it is definitely steep – and it feels like it. In fact, it’s Yas Waterworld’s steepest waterslide. The open flume adds an extra layer of titillation to this water adventure; dare to keep your eyes open to watch the surrounding structures grow taller as you plummet to the bottom.

5. Hamlool’s Humps

Hamlool’s Humps is a body-speed water slide. Like the Jebel Drop, Hamlool’s Humps is a fast and furious open-tube slide from the top of the 10-story Yas Waterworld mountain to the water below. That said, its two exaggerated humps (thus, the name) make it less steep. It’s still a zippy trip down, however; it should take you only around 10 seconds to reach the exit flume below.

6. Dawwama

How about a water coaster ride you can share with your family or best pals? Yas Waterworld’s Dawwama is a six-person tornado water slide, the biggest in the world.

You and five others will sit facing each other on a flower-shaped inflatable raft. Hold tight as the ride conveyor launches you down the side of the mountain and down through a series of open and closed flumes. The ride’s climax is a ride through a 20-meter-high funnel where the force of the water will spin and whirl you around like helpless objects caught in a tornado.

7. Falcons Falaj

After you’ve gone on Dawwama, queue for Falcons Falaj next. Measuring 300 m, this high-intensity, high-speed water slide is the Middle East’s longest water coaster.

Like Dawwama, you ride a circular inflatable raft with five other individuals. The ride’s conveyor mechanism will drop you down a sled-type slide, and you’ll dip and bump through a series of open and enclosed chutes until you reach the bottom.

Your Need for Speed

Yas Waterpark is an excellent waterpark that will always be worth your time, with or without any theme park deals. If you simply want to cool off, while away the day lounging around Amwaj Beach, treading water on the Amwaj Wave Pool or floating down the Al Raha lazy river. However, if you want excitement, try the slides above. They’ll definitely get your adrenaline going.
